Tarpee Heat-Stroke Prevention, Flame-Retardant Sheet “Reflair” Adopted for Pedestrian Bridge Repair Project

Our Tarpee Heat-Stroke Prevention, Flame-Retardant Sheet “Reflair” has been adopted as a heat mitigation measure at a pedestrian bridge repair site in Wakuya Town, Miyagi Prefecture.

For this project, Reflair was installed within the temporary scaffolding to reduce radiant heat from the corrugated polycarbonate roofing of the pedestrian bridge. Temperature measurements taken at the site before and after installation showed that the temperature at the monitored point dropped from approximately 49.4°C (with only the polycarbonate roofing) to approximately 45.3°C after the installation of Reflair, confirming a temperature reduction effect of about 4–5°C.

In recent years, deteriorating working environments due to intense summer heat have become a major challenge in the construction and civil engineering industries. Combining high heat-shielding and flame-retardant properties, Reflair is an effective  solution for preventing heat-related illness at outdoor construction sites and temporary facilities.

Comments from the construction team included:

“During summer pedestrian bridge repair work, rising temperatures inside the scaffolding caused by direct sunlight and heat reflected from surrounding surfaces are a major challenge. After installing Reflair, however, we noticed that the heat felt less intense.”and “The effect is particularly noticeable during daytime operations.”
